Mehmet graduated from METU Computer Engineering in 2004, and then worked as a researcher at TUBITAK for 6 years. In 2010, he moved to England with his wife and has since worked at various companies in England.

Mehmet's interests outside of work include sports, and he is active in a wide variety of them. In 2021, he developed an interest in sailing and has been actively pursuing it by attending trainings in both Turkey and England.

He is taking steps to make sailing and being on the sea a more prominent part of his life and is actively working to improve his skills in these areas. The Paper Boat adventure is a significant step in this direction.
